Brazilian MMA fighter, Adriano ‘Mamute’ Santana, was allegedly murdered by three men in his own home in the city of Belem, Brazil. According to a police report and local media outlet G1 Para, who first broke the news, Adriano was shot in the face with a firearm and then stabbed to death with knives, while in front of his girlfriend and son.
The report claims Adriano was at home at around 11:30 PM when someone knocked on his back door. He answered the door to find three armed men, with shirts covering their faces, who chased him inside the house as he tried to run away. When he pleaded for his life, Santana was allegedly shot in the face and left for dead.
The three men were said to be taking Mamute and his girlfriend’s cellphones when they noticed the fighter was still alive, so they allegedly came back and finished him off with multiple stabs to the chest. The police also claims Adriano had no connections to any drug dealers, nor was he a drug user.
Adriano was 29 years-old and also worked as an electrician at a local harbor. He had a professional record of 1-1. His last outing was in August 2015, when he defeated Kael Henrique via unanimous decision in the Brazilian circuit.
In MMA, Belem is best known as the hometown of former UFC light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida, and also hosted its first UFC event back on February 3. The card was headlined by a middleweight fight between Machida and Eryk Anders.
