Mike Jackson: The CM Punk persona will die at UFC 225 in his hometown

Mike Jackson plans to end the CM Punk persona when they fight each other at UFC 225 this June.

Chicago native Phil Brooks rose to massive superstardom going by the name CM Punk in the WWE. It is a name he decided to carry over when he made the transition into the UFC in 2016.

His upcoming opponent Mike Jackson, however, has an issue with using the said name.

“His mama call him Phil, I’m gonna call him Phil,” Jackson said on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting). “That’s his name — Phil Brooks. The whole CM Punk thing, I guess he’s trying to bring that gimmick over from the professional wrestling.”

“Look, the CM Punk guy, he’s dying June 9 at UFC 225 in his hometown of Chicago.”

“Vince McMahon could not have written a better storyline,” he added. “The redemption story of CM Punk being ended by ‘The Truth’ at UFC 225.”

Jackson has not exactly been able to make a name for himself in the UFC, after an abysmal debut in February 2016 where he lost to Mickey Gall via submission within just 45 seconds of action.

“The Truth” is planning to change that, as he expects a hostile crowd coming in.

“The main objective here is to build the Mike ‘The Truth’ entertainment brand,” he said. “That’s what we’re here about. So, although I know I’m gonna be walking out to a lot of boos, eventually I want to turn those fans over and bring them to ‘The Truth’ side.”

UFC 225 will be headlined by the middleweight title rematch between champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero.
