It’s nowhere near as bad as UFC 223, but this week’s fight card in Atlantic City, NJ is bringing it’s own last minute drama to the table. First Magomed Bibulatov has an old back injury flare up, cancelling his fight with Ulka Sasaki. Then Aspen Ladd encountered “certain female circumstances” during her weight cut, causing her fight with Leslie Smith to be called off when Ladd came in over the bantamweight limit.
Now it appears the headliner is going through some drama as well, with Kevin Lee missing the lightweight limit by a pound. Fortunately, however, his fight against Edson Barboza isn’t getting scrapped, as Barboza was quick to take the offered 157 lb catchweight.
Kevin Lee released a statement on Instagram about his failure to make weight.
“For the first time ever in my athletic career since high school I’ve missed weight this morning,” Lee wrote on social media. “I just ran outta time. I apologize @Ufc @danawhite @edsonbarbozajr tomorrow Imma go put on a show #ufcatlanticcity #25tolife”
As a result, Barboza will receive 20% of Lee’s purse for the bout. UFC Fight Night: Barboza vs. Lee is now planned to go ahead with eleven fights, down from the initial thirteen scheduled. As a result, the start time for the Fight Pass card, previously scheduled for 6:30 Eastern/3:30 Pacific, is likely to be moved back an hour (7:30/4:30). FS1 Prelim and main card start times should remain unchanged.
