UFC on Fox 29: Dustin Poirier, five others handed 180-day medical suspensions

Dustin Poirier might not be fighting again for a while.

MMA: UFC Fight Night Phoenix-Poirier vs Gaethje Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Despite coming out on top in his thrilling main event bout with Justin Gaethje at UFC on Fox 29, it looks like Dustin Poirier was the worse for wear. It was pretty obvious that his legs were jacked up, even before he released photographic evidence of it the day after the fight. It turns out that there might be actual knee damage though, based on the Arizona Boxing and MMA Commission’s medical suspensions coming out of the event.

Poirier joined a list of six fighters from the card to be handed 180-day suspensions. Obviously those can be cleared early by a doctor, but are usually the sign of some sort of injury occurring in a bout. In addition to Poirier, Courtney Casey, Tim Boetsch, Ricky Rainey, John Moraga, and Lauren Mueller were also handed long terms. The report didn’t indicate the nature of the rest of their injuries, however.

Gaethje, who was finished in the fourth round of his lightweight bout with Poirier, was handed a 45-day suspension due to the TKO loss.

Here’s a look at the complete list of suspensions (via MMA Junkie):
