John Dodson vs. Pedro Munhoz rescheduled for UFC 222

It didn’t take long for John Dodson vs. Pedro Munhoz to find a new home.

Bantamweights John Dodson and Pedro Munhoz were supposed to fight each other on last Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Anders card, but will instead go to battle on March 3rd. The Las Vegas Review-Journal confirmed on Tuesday that Dodson vs. Munhoz will now happen at UFC 222.

Dodson (19-9) opted not to fight Munhoz at a catchweight after the Brazilian came in four pounds over the bantamweight limit. The former flyweight title challenger, who has just one more fight on his current UFC deal, is coming off a split decision loss to Marlon Moraes back in November.

Munhoz (15-2, 1 NC) has won four straight, most recently submitting Rob Font last October. All of his finishes during his winning streak have been via guillotine choke. The Dodson fight figured to be the biggest test of his career, but he missed weight for the first time in his career, and cited a lack of hot water at the hotel as the culprit.

Current UFC bantamweight rankings list Dodson at #8 and Munhoz at #10.

UFC 222 is still looking for a main event, and may in fact be downgraded to a Fight Night event, or (absolute worst case scenario) cancelled outright.
