The UFC’s #7 heavyweight Derrick Lewis stopped the #9 Marcin Tybura with strikes in 3rd round of the UFC Austin co-main event. Lewis landed early strikes in the opening round, and endured quite a bit of time with Tybura on top of him throughout the 2nd frame, to finally land some big punches to seal the deal in the 3rd round. This was an impressive gutsy performance from Lewis who had to dig deep in front of his home crowd to remain undefeated in the state of Texas.
Derrick Lewis def. Marcin Tybura by KO at 2:48 of round 3: Heavyweight
Lewis blasted his opponent with an early right hand to takedown into the half guard early on, but Tybura rolled for a leg lock. Lewis scrambled out of harms way and took the back, but Tybura exploded to his feet, sending Lewis stumbling backwards and falling to the ground. Lewis returned to his feet and blasted his opposition again with a heavy shot, but Tybura used the opportunity to find top position again, threatening with a keylock as time expired.
Lewis landed another heavy right hand to start the 2nd frame, and looked to pour it on but Tybura responded by changing levels and achieving a takedown. Tybura transitioned to the back of Lewis and held on for the ride for the rest of the round as his opponent kept exploding, fruitlessly trying to escape.
The pace slowed up a bit for the heavyweights into the final round, with Tybura launching kicks at Lewis and Lewis looking to stop the takedown. Lewis found his separation and wasted no time in uncorking a couple of well placed cruise missiles that dropped Tybura. A couple of follow up ground strikes and the referee stepped in and stopped the fight. Whoa!
The power of Lewis is scary:
