Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is looking at a possible hefty sanction for his second PED-related infraction in the UFC. Specifically, the 30-year-old fighter could be suspended for four years by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
From their end, the Jones camp denied claims that “Bones” was intentionally cheating, and even subjected him to a polygraph test to prove it. But ultimately, they believe Jones had already been punished enough.
“In my mind, he’s innocent – I know it for a fact,” Jones’ manager Malki Kawa told MMAjunkie Radio. “So for me, there’s no way in the world these guys are going to punish him. I just don’t see how they do it. It would be an outrage to me if they suspended him longer.”
Jones is scheduled to appear in front of the California State Athletic Commission on February 27th, to receive his sanctions for his failed drug test at UFC 214 last July. According to Kawa, he expects the USADA arbitration to be done around this time as well.
“I’m expecting that USADA is also wrapped up (by that time). If it’s not wrapped up, I’m not sure if we push the (CSAC) hearing to March, or we still have the hearing and wait on USADA,” Kawa said. “From what I’m understanding, what USADA would like to do and we would like to do, is we’d like to have it all wrapped up by the CSAC hearing.”
Kawa is confident enough about the outcome of this case, that he expects Jones to be back in action sometime this year.
