Joe Rogan: Floyd Mayweather has ‘a real chance’ against CM Punk in an MMA fight

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been teasing fans that he’s going to compete in MMA, and his uncle Jeff Mayweather suggested that Floyd could whoop CM Punk (even though Jeff has no idea who CM Punk is). It’s only logical that we start getting analysis about a hypothetical Mayweather vs. CM Punk showdown from Joe Rogan.

Speaking on his Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show, the longtime UFC analyst firstly shot down the idea of Mayweather being remotely competitive against lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

“Whatever the f—k Vegas puts on [Mayweather vs. McGregor], that’s cute,” Rogan said. “I don’t care if it’s 10-1, 100-1, I bet it’s going to be like 900-1. It’s gonna be something ridiculous. Buster Douglas was only like 42-1 [against Mike Tyson]. This is gonna be insane... if they’re smart. Because Conor’s going to kick his legs out –- he’s not even going to have a chance to come close enough. Conor’s going to kick his f—king legs out; he doesn’t have any chance. Then if Conor decides to shoot in and clinch, he’s going to clinch and he’s going to ragdoll him.”

Rogan would later be taken aback by Bovada’s current Mayweather vs. McGregor MMA betting odds, which have McGregor at -900 to Mayweather’s +550.

Now, Floyd Mayweather vs. CM Punk?

“Floyd’s got a real chance,” Rogan said.

CM Punk’s one MMA fight ended in a quick submission loss to Mickey Gall back at UFC 203 in September 2016. The former WWE star and current BJJ blue belt competes at 170 pounds, whereas Mayweather has never weighed in above 151 pounds in his boxing career, even for junior middleweight (154 lbs) matchups.

While Rogan acknowledges Punk’s considerable size advantage over Mayweather, he also hailed Floyd as one of the greatest, if not the greatest boxer of all-time, and that as far as his pugilistic credentials are concerned, “he’s on another level of everybody who is on another level.”

Rogan does want to know if Mayweather’s style will change with MMA gloves as opposed to boxing gloves, especially when you consider Floyd’s history of hand injuries.

“Can Floyd fight the same way he does with big gloves, with MMA gloves? The reason why I say this because Floyd’s broken his hands multiple times. He’s had some serious surgeries on his hands. Maybe they’ve cured it, and maybe it’s fine, but we’ve all known for the longest time, Floyd preferred puffier gloves when he’s fought. But he hasn’t had hand problems in a while, so maybe he did fix it, and his hands looked f—king great against Conor.”

Per Dana White, CM Punk is going to get another shot in the UFC, but no opponent has been named as of yet.

By the way, next month will mark ten years since Floyd knocked out Big Show at WrestleMania XXIV, so who’s to say he can’t also topple CM Punk?
