Werdum (23-7-1) is currently on a two-fight winning streak, last defeating Marcin Tybura by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 121. Before that, “Vai Cavalo” fought Walt Harris on short notice at UFC 216, as his original opponent Derrick Lewis suffered a back injury on the day of the fight. Werdum defeated Harris by submission in the first round.
Volkov (29-6) is undefeated in the UFC after signing with the promotion in September 2016. He began his UFC career with consecutive decision victories over Roy Nelson and Timothy Johnson. The Russian, nicknamed “Drago,” last fought at UFC Fight Night 115 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, defeating Stefan Struve by third-round TKO.
A middleweight fight between Michael Bisping and Rashad Evans was being considered for this event, per MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. Bisping later revealed that despite the report, he would not be fighting at UFC London.
UFC Fight Night: Werdum vs. Volkov will stream exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
