UFC Adelaide results: Junior dos Santos stops Tai Tuivasa with strikes

New, comment

Junior dos Santos just stopped Tai Tuivasa with strikes in the second round of the UFC Adelaide main event.

The top of the UFC Adelaide billing involved the promotion’s #7 heavyweight Junior dos Santos stopping the ranked #11 Tai Tuivasa in the second round. Tuivasa rushed JDS right away, full steam ahead to no avail. JDS was content to sit back and wait on the aggressive Tuivasa. A massive leg kick buckled JDS and Tuivasa landed a couple of big punches to follow up. Tuivasa picked up where he left off in the second frame, backing up JDS and touching him with the hands. JDS caught Tuivasa with his hands down and seized the moment by dropping him. JDS took side control and then the full mount, dropping strike after strike. The referee had seen enough and stepped in to call off the bout.

This is JDS’ second straight win and his first stoppage victory since Mark Hunt way back in 2013. For Tuivasa, it’s the first loss of his professional career. JDS called for a rematch with Alistair Overeem, who knocked him out a few years ago, while Tuivasa wants Justin Willis, who beat Hunt earlier on the card.
