Last Sunday was a good day for former UFC welterweight Hernani Perpetuo. Not only did the welterweight emerge victorious from his bout against Marco Antonio Santana at Shooto Brasil 89, the Octagon veteran also tapped his opponent out with a rare gogoplata submission early in the first round..

During his two-fight Octagon stint, Perpetuo dropped a split decision to Jordan Mein in April 2014 — and in July of the same year, Hernani was bested by Tim Means via unanimous decision and released from his contract. After his UFC release, the 33-year-old has been alternating wins and losses ever since.

Former UFC lightweight Valmir Lazaro also competed on the card, defeating Denis Trator via unanimous decision. In his three-time Octagon stint, ‘Bidu’ scored a single split decision win over James Krause, but was bested by James Vick and Michel Prazeres and released after his November 2015 defeat to the fellow Brazilian.
