UFC fighter rankings: Jon Jones returns as number-one light heavyweight contender

New, comments

Jon Jones is back in the UFC rankings in a big way.

Jon Jones is back. Well, he hasn’t actually stepped into the Octagon yet - he does that against Alexander Gustafsson on December 29th - but he’s back in the rankings. And the panelists wasted no time in putting Jones right back basically where he was before.

The former 205-pound champion entered the light heavyweight rankings as the number-one contender. bumping Gustafsson out of that spot. And he’s already at number three in the pound-for-pound list, only behind Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It’s not just about Jones though. The results of UFC 230 uprooted the middleweight rankings in the big way as well. So here’s a look at all of the changes this week.

P4P - Jones is back in at the three position. Four fighters - T.J. Dillashaw, Max Holloway, Georges St-Pierre and Tyron Woodley - all fell a spot each to four to seven, respectively. Stipe Miocic is up one to nine, sending Henry Cejudo down to ten.

Heavyweight - No changes.

Light Heavyweight - Jones is the new number-one contender, as noted above. Basically everyone just moved down one spot to accommodate him. Tyson Pedro stayed at 14. Nikita Krylov fell two spots to 15.

Middleweight - Jacare Souza is up two to take over the two spot. Chris Weidman fell two to four. Israel Adesanya is up three big spots to six. Paulo Costa is up one to seven. Derek Brunson fell two spots to eight. Brad Tavares is up one to a tie for nine with the debuting Jared Cannonier. David Branch fell four spots to eleven. Antonio Carlos Junior, Uriah Hall, Elias Theodorou, and Thiago Santos all fell a spot each to 12-15 respectively.

Welterweight - No changes.

Lightweight - No changes.

Featherweight - No changes.

Bantamweight - No changes.

Flyweight - Yup, there are still flyweight rankings. Everyone moved up a spot due to the removal of Demetrious Johnson last week. Matheus Nicolau is up two spots to 12. Alex Perez is in at 14.

Women’s Bantamweight - No changes.

Women’s Flyweight - Lauren Murphy moved from eight into a tie for seven with Roxanne Modafferi.

Women’s Strawweight - No changes.
