Right now it’s all up to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, who announced earlier today that the incident is officially under investigation.
NAC will have a lot of different angles and footage to choose from in deciding how the punishment will be handed down.
In preparation, the LA Times’ Lance Pugmire reported that the lightweight fighters will receive 10-day suspensions for their respective roles in the fracas.
The Nevada Athletic Commission will deliver 10-day suspensions to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor in short order as it begins in earnest its review of @TeamKhabib’s post-fight leap into the crowd Saturday night at @TMobileArena.— Lance Pugmire (@latimespugmire) October 9, 2018
It’ll be interesting to see how the NAC views each fighter’s actions. For his part, Conor has called for a rematch. Meanwhile, Khabib’s father has stronger opinions about the brawl then Khabib himself.
The UFC “technically” has a lot of options. There’s always the rubber match between McGregor and Nate Diaz, and Tony Ferguson made a strong case for himself after his brilliant display in defeating Anthony Pettis.
Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor via submission in the fourth round of the UFC 229 headliner.
