Dana White: Khabib Nurmagomedov’s paycheck withheld following UFC 229 post-fight melee

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s actions following his UFC 229 win vs. Conor McGregor could be very costly.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was able to choke out Conor McGregor to remain the UFC lightweight champion in the UFC 229 main event, but the biggest fight in UFC history was marred by ugly scenes after McGregor tapped out in the fourth round. Khabib angrily pointed at Conor’s teammate Dillon Danis, then jumped the cage and went after him, causing complete mayhem to ensue outside the cage. Inside the Octagon, two of Khabib’s teammates entered the fold and McGregor was attacked, and it took awhile for everyone to be separated and heads to cool down.

Nurmagomedov left the cage before the official announcement was read, and so did McGregor. Fans threw trash at Khabib as he was escorted out of the arena.

According to UFC president Dana White, Khabib’s paycheck is being withheld by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

“The Nevada Athletic Commission pulled footage from us and there’s an investigation going on. They are withholding Khabib’s purse, they are not withholding Conor McGregor’s,” White said at the post-fight press conference. “They looked at the footage and felt that there was no need to withhold his purse, and they’re keeping Khabib’s.”

White also confirmed that three members of Khabib’s team have since been arrested by Las Vegas police, but McGregor decided not to press charges. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for more updates.
