UFC 229 is almost here, and as usual, Embedded is here as well. The show that gives you an inside look at the marquee contestants on PPVs has issued the fifth episode for this weekend’s big show in Vegas, and it serves as a brief introduction to the fighters at the top of the card.
It’s Ultimate Media Day. Tony Ferguson tells Gray Maynard he’s a big fan and asks for a pic. Maynard obliges. Anthony Pettis talks to UFC newcomer Jalin Turner about an old sparring session. Dominick Reyes and Alexander Volkov are there too, and Pettis is jokingly complaining about how tall everyone is compared to him.
Ferguson talks about loving everything about this, including the training, the sh-t talk - it don’t matter. Pettis talks about the mindset from injury recovery that might be affecting Ferguson. He’s very complimentary overall though. El Cucuy and Derrick Lewis talk a bit.
Felice Herrig talks about her size and strength advantage. Michelle Waterson believes she’s faster and more technical. They face off. Lewis and Volkov face off. Lewis jokes about how tall Volkov is. Pettis and Ferguson are cool, despite what Dana White was expecting for a second.
Now we’re at the press conference. The crowd is going crazy. Khabib is there on time, and he says beforehand that he’s not going to wait around for a late McGregor. He takes questions, and states that he won’t shake Conor’s hand after the fight. It’s personal to him. He’s fine with the Irish fans there though. After 15 minutes, true to his word, he walks out.
McGregor strolls in about a half hour late to a huge reaction, as expected. He talks his usual game. “F—k peace. There will never be peace here.” They bring out his belts, and he talks about the “Dagestani rat”.
And that’s it! UFC 229 goes down tomorrow night in Vegas!
