Heavyweight prospect Marcelo Golm has a better feeling about his upcoming bout than his last one. After being outwrestled by Timothy Johnson and dropping a unanimous decision back in February, the 26-year-old tells Bloody Elbow he believes his next opponent, Arjan Bhullar, a decorated wrestler, won’t try to grapple him as much.

“Tim Johnson really only knows how to fight by smothering you, right?” Golm said. “He’s really annoying to fight against. Even though Arjan is a better wrestler, he’s not as stiff, so I believe he won’t try to smother me as much, but if he does, I’ll be prepared. I’ve been training with excellent wrestlers at American Top Team.”

Before the loss to Johnson, Golm had a submission win over Christian Colombo in his Octagon debut. Given his short UFC record, a second straight loss could put his championship dreams in jeopardy, but the Brazilian guarantees he feels no pressure coming into the fight.

“I feel no pressure because I’m coming off of a loss,” Golm said. “In fact, I’ve been using that to motivate myself and win my next fight. I’m still new to this sport, I still need to evolve a lot, but I consider myself a part of the new generation of Brazilian heavyweights and I’ll always try to represent my country in the best possible way.”

Marcelo Golm is expected to take on Arjan Bhullar at UFC Fight Night 138, in Moncton, Canada, on October 27. The card will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Volkan Oezdemir and Anthony Smith.
