Alexander Gustafsson: ‘Jon Jones’ head will bounce off the canvas in the fourth round’

Alexander Gustafsson predicts his upcoming light heavyweight title fight against Jon Jones at UFC 232.

Former UFC light heavyweight title contender Alexander Gustafsson has been clamoring for a big fight for a while now. He did get his wish a week ago when a rematch against former champion Jon Jones was finalized to headline UFC 232 on December 29th in Las Vegas.

For Jones, one thing that will change for the rematch is how serious he says he will take his training.

“I didn’t train very hard for that fight, I’m not making excuses, but this is just the truth,” Jones said in interview with RT Sport in September. “I could have given it a lot more effort. I got fatigued after the first two rounds, which is something that never normally happens in my fights. So I feel like the next time I fight him, I will finish him.”

For Gustafsson, on the other hand, it is the level of respect that is no longer the same.

“I don’t have the same respect for Jones as I did five years ago,” Gustafsson told MMANytt in a recent news conference.

Jones and Gustafsson fought to a five-round barnburner at UFC 165 in 2013, with “Bones” emerging with a close decision victory. This time around, Gustafsson expects a more decisive outcome in his favor.

“I’ll knock him out in the fourth,” he said. “Jon Jones’ head will bounce off the canvas in the fourth round.”

UFC 232 be co-headlined by the women’s featherweight title fight between Cris Cyborg and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.
