Bellator 208 concluded with Fedor Emelianenko stopping Chael Sonnen with ground strikes in the opening round of the main event. Fedor now moves on to face Bellator’s 205=pound champ Ryan Bader in the finals of the Grand Prix, with the winner walking away with the heavyweight strap. The GOAT is going for gold once again, while Bader is seeking to become Bellator’s first ever simultaneous two-division champion.

Sonnen was dropped right out of the gate with one of the first punches thrown by Fedor, and then again as soon as he stood back up. After changing levels, Sonnen shot in for the takedown, but Fedor rolled with it and landed on top. Sonnen was losing in all areas of the fight, the standup and the grappling, but he kept coming forward.

A takedown was achieved for Sonnen, but Fedor was able to reverse the position, and ultimately dished out a series of unanswered ground strikes that forced the referee to step in and stop the fight.

Fedor Emelianenko def. Chael Sonnen by TKO at 4:46 of round 1: Heavyweight GP

Fedor vs. Bader will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on January 26th. The winner will be crowned Bellator’s heavyweight champion.
