Video: Terence Crawford throws punch at Jose Benavidez Jr during weigh-ins staredown

Tensions are boiling between WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford and Jose Benavidez Jr.

Pound-for-pound boxing standout Terence Crawford (33-0, 24 KOs) might be a huge favorite over fellow undefeated welterweight Jose Benavidez Jr (27-0, 18 KOs), but the WBO welterweight champion has been in an ongoing feud with the former amateur boxing prodigy for several months now, and things got really heated at Friday’s weigh-ins in Crawford’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

First off, neither man had difficulty on the scale, as both men came in at 145 pounds — Crawford slightly heavier at 145.4 lbs — making Saturday night’s Top Rank on ESPN event official. Then the staredown came and the fight just as easily could’ve fallen apart, as Benavidez shoved Crawford back, then Crawford tried to ice Jose with a right hand, but Benavidez was able to dodge it before authorities intervened.

“They’ve been telling me to be cool all week. I’ve been cool, I’ve been keeping it professional, and he pushed me,” Crawford told ESPN.

“I’m in his head. And I hope he swings faster than what he swung today, because I’ve seen that punch coming a mile away. And I hope he puts more power into that too because that’s a b-tch punch he threw,” Benavidez said to ESPN following the weigh-ins.

“I don’t see anything special [in Terence Crawford],” he added.

Well Crawford certainly doesn’t like being disrespected. It also further explains why he said he loved the UFC 229 post-fight brawl.

You can watch the video at the top of the page, with the confrontation at the 1:54 timestamp. The actual fight between Crawford and Benavidez is set for 10:30 PM ET on ESPN.
