Former UFC champ Sean Sherk offers to prepare McGregor for Khabib rematch

Former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk has offered his services to Conor McGregor.

It’s been over eight years since former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk last set foot inside the Octagon, and ‘The Muscle Shark’ was a force to be reckoned with in his heyday.

With wins over the likes of Karo Parisyan, Kenny Florian and Nick Diaz, Sherk cemented himself as one of the best fighters in the promotion and arguably the best wrestler in the lightweight division. The wrestling powerhouse had only lost to other UFC greats such as Frankie Edgar, B.J. Penn, Matt Hughes, and Georges St-Pierre.

With a wealth of championship-level experience under his belt and expertise in the field of MMA wrestling, Sherk has offered his services to none other than Conor McGregor in the lead-up to a potential rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor was dominated and submitted by Nurmagomedov at the blockbuster UFC 229 pay-per-view last Saturday. Aside from a few moments of success in the third round, McGregor was overwhelmed by Khabib’s pace and grappling and was unable to land any significant strikes of his own.

Sherk, who released a statement on Facebook yesterday, believes he could iron out the chinks in his armor and successfully prepare the former two-division champ to beat Khabib in the rematch.

McGregor’s long time coach and mentor, John Kavanagh, admitted that he was ‘too defensive’ in his mindset for UFC 229 and is open to a different gameplan for the inevitable rematch. McGregor, who claimed to have ‘lost the match but won the battle’, has demanded an immediate rematch with Nurmagomedov.
