Although Khabib Nurmagomedov said he wanted to beat Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson in one night, the undefeated Dagestani is mainly focused on securing an interim title bout against Tony Ferguson.

That’s according to his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who made a post on Twitter telling Conor McGregor to say ‘bye bye’ and move over to boxing.

McGregor, 29, knocked out Eddie Alvarez to win the official lightweight title in 2016 but has faced criticism for not defending it. ‘The Notorious’ fought and lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his professional boxing debut in August and has promised to return to MMA to defend his crown and ‘legitimize’ the rankings.

Despite hyping a return to the Octagon, McGregor has insisted that fighters must ‘lobby’ for fights with him and is currently trying to iron out a new contract with the UFC.

Many believe Nurmagomedov, who steamrolled top-five lightweight contender Edson Barboza last Saturday at UFC 219, is the toughest match-up for McGregor but it’s looking like the Irishman will sit on the sidelines to face the winner of Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson.

Although the bout hasn’t been booked or made official, UFC president Dana White has hinted that ‘El Cucuy’ will defend his interim belt against Khabib in the coming months.
