After Jon Jones was once again stripped of the UFC light heavyweight title after UFC 214, Daniel Cormier was reinstated as the 205-pound champion. In turn, there were still those who questioned the legitimacy of this second title reign.
For “DC”, however, there is no longer that need to justify his status as a bona fide champion.
“I am so secure and happy in what I’ve done in my career that I don’t need anything else,” Cormier told a group of reporters after Wednesday’s open workouts (via MMA Fighting). “Someone asked me on the way over here, ‘is this fight a justification, how do I justify my title reign?’”
“I said I don’t have to, I know what I’ve done when all is said and done when I’m long gone, I’ll always have been the UFC champion, and now I’ve been UFC champion for three years. I’m done with justifying. I’m done with that.”
As for Jones, the troubled fighter recently made headlines when he reportedly took and passed a polygraph test to prove that he did not intentionally take Turinabol, the performance-enhancing drug that was found in his system. To this, Cormier had something to say as well.
”Jon Jones took a polygraph test to prove his innocence, and I’m going to say this: Ted Bundy passed a polygraph test … and then killed the f----ng guy that was giving it to him!”
