UFC Japan was one of the least-watched shows the promotion has staged in years, and it doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to see why - there were very few relevant fighters on the card. After Shogun Rua was removed from the main event due to injury, it became a one-match show.
Luckily, that one fight - between strawweight contenders Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Andrade - totally delivered.
In terms of the rankings though, Andrade was the only major riser. You can check the rest of the uneventfulness below.
P4P - Jose Aldo moved up one spot into a tie for ninth with former 135-pound champ Dominick Cruz.
Heavyweight - No changes.
Light Heavyweight - Jared Cannonier re-enters the rankings at 15.
Middleweight - No changes.
Welterweight - Kamaru Usman passed Gunnar Nelson to move into the 11 spot.
Lightweight - No changes.
Featherweight - No changes.
Bantamweight - No changes.
Flyweight - Dustin Ortiz moved up two spots to 9, dropping Tim Elliott to 10 and John Moraga to 11.
Women’s Bantamweight - No changes.
Women’s Strawweight - Andrade is the story of the week with her huge win over Gadelha. She shot up three spots to take over the number one contenders spot, but it might not do her much good since she recently lost to champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The loss dropped Gadelha to the two spot, with Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Rose Namajunas also falling a spot each to three and four respectively.
