Headlining UFC Japan was a makeshift light heavyweight bout between Ovince Saint Preux and Yushin Okami. The original plan was for OSP to rematch Mauricio Rua, but the former middleweight title contender Okami stepped up on short notice when Shogun pulled out with injury. Yushin had recently been competing at welterweight, so it was always going to be a tall task to get the upset win, and he wound up being the latest victim of the “Von Flue choke.”
Okami shot for a takedown right away, and Saint Preux immediately sprawled and wound up on top. OSP was looking to move over to mount, but Okami did well to block it. Having previously won two fights by Von Flue choke, OSP looked for that submission for a third time, and he put Okami to sleep. Unbelievable how well Saint Preux manages to win this way.
Official result: Ovince Saint Preux def. Yushin Okami by technical submission (Von Flue choke) at 1:50 of round 1
It’s time to call it the Von Preux choke now. There have been five of these wins in UFC history and he owns three of them. OSP has won two straight, both by
Von Flue Von Preux choke, while Okami’s four-fight winning streak comes to an end.
