Video: Boxer gets punched in the nuts by opponent’s son during weigh-ins

What transpired at the Billy Joe Saunders vs. Willie Monroe Jr. weigh-ins has to be seen to be believed.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez isn’t the only middleweight championship fight taking place on September 16th. WBO titleholder Billy Joe Saunders (24-0, 12 KOs) is defending his belt against Willie Monroe Jr. (21-2, 6 KOs) at the Copper Box Arena in London, England, and tensions have been high for the duration of this fight’s build-up, including just days ago at the Peacock Gym. Here’s a sampling of their sophisticated, very high-level Twitter trash talk.

At Friday’s weigh-ins, both men made the middleweight limit of 160 pounds, therefore making Saturday’s main event official, but the real star of this story is Saunders’ young son. While the actual combatants were posing for the cameras after they had weighed in, Billy’s son got onto the scale, Willie gave him a friendly rub of the head, and the child responded with a good ol’ punch to the groin. I am not making this up. Watch the video at the top of the page. (via iFL TV)

Saunders’ son ended up being restrained quickly, but it looks like he also flashed his middle finger towards his dad’s opponent, and it also sounds as if he’s exchanging naughty words with Monroe’s team.

Here’s the response from Billy Joe after this quite bizarre sequence of events.

And the reaction from Monroe, via Instagram:

“I honestly thought people in London were cool but I've called a n-gger..a w-nker...a Latin F-ck etc and now at the weigh ins They bring a kid on stage to punch me in the Nuts and nothing was done about it @frank_warren_official should be ashamed of himself”

Saunders vs. Monroe will air live on BT Sport in the UK, but for viewers in the United States and Canada, there will be a free live stream available on Youtube starting at 5:30 PM ET/2:30 PM PT. Presumably Saunders’ kid will not be involved in tag-team operations tomorrow night.
