Jon Jones addresses failed test: ‘Truth is I would never do steroids’

In the past few weeks, it was revealed that Jon Jones failed his second drug test under the USADA era (he also had a drug test fiasco prior to the new anti-doping policy), one that could have very grave consequences. After his ‘B’ sample tested positive for the same anabolic steroid, his win has been overturned, and his belt has been stripped for a third time.

During that stretch, the former champion has remained largely silent apart from a few somewhat cryptic tweets that didn’t specifically address these issues. Thursday night, he finally spoke about the drug test directly.

Jones took to twitter and replied to a fan who was asking him to “just tell the truth” because “everyone will respect you more for it.”

When Jones tested positive for clomiphene and letrozole, he also denied using PEDs, claiming these substances were unknowingly from a “dick pill” he took. With Jones now coming out and denying steroid use on this latest failed test, it seems like he may try another “tainted supplement” defense, where he unknowingly ingested the anabolic steroids that was in his system.

There may be a couple of hurdles with that defense. First, is that he will have to prove that he took a substance that contains Turinabol, which hasn’t been produced for medical use in decades, and isn’t cleared for human use. Second, is that he already used that defense in the past, and he still got the maximum suspension for being reckless with what he put in his body.

Jones could be facing a 4-year suspension and a pretty hefty fine, among other things, but nothing of course is set in stone just yet. Jones has his right to due process, so we will have to see how everything plays out.

The man who had been considered by many to be the greatest of all time, turned 30 last July, and has already lost his titles and years of his prime due to past issues.
