Women’s bantamweight Cindy Dandois announced on her Instagram page that she’s been released from the UFC. It’s not often that a fighter gets cut after just one bout, but that’s the case here. You can read her full statement below.
Dandois (8-3) lost by unanimous decision to Alexis Davis at UFC Nashville in April. The fight was notable for the less-than-impressive striking shown from Dandois, whose style is centered around judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Prior to that, the Belgian had three fights in Invicta FC, including a 2015 submission win over Megan Anderson, as well as a submission defeat to Tonya Evinger. She also defeated Marloes Coenen in her pro debut in 2009.
Most of her fights have been contested at featherweight, hence the statement about wanting to take on Cris Cyborg. In fact, Cyborg vs. Dandois was scheduled to happen in Invicta FC before the promotion switched Dandois out and replaced her with Daria Ibragimova, whom Dandois submitted back in 2010.
While Dandois has multiple quality wins at 145, evidently the UFC didn’t see it fit to keep her around no matter the weight class.
