‘Suckers’: Did Floyd Mayweather send Paulie Malignaggi to spy on McGregor?

Floyd Mayweather and Paulie Malignaggi tease that Conor McGregor was setup in sparring.

It looks like a desperate attempt to play mind games with Conor McGregor, but Floyd Mayweather Jr. claims he sent Paulie Malignaggi to the Irishman’s training camp as a spy.

Mayweather, who will take on the UFC lightweight champion in a 12-round boxing match on Aug. 26, was seen laughing and joking with Malignaggi at his final workout in Las Vegas, per a video released by Fight Hype.

Malignaggi was sent in as a sparring partner for McGregor last month, but the former two-weight boxing champion packed his bags and returned home after being upset with the photos released on McGregor’s social media account.

‘Magic Man’ called ‘The Notorious’ a ‘sucker’ for believing that he was sent to help prepare for Mayweather.

“My friend, it’s my friend, Paulie,” said Mayweather (h/t Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). “My friend Paulie has always been my friend. You know what, I even told my friend - my friend called me and said, ‘Floyd, do you want me to go to camp?’ I said, ‘Abso-f**king-lutely’.

“Suckers,” intoned Malignaggi. “Suckers.”

Mayweather then implied that Malignaggi was going to reveal McGregor’s game plan in private, once again thanking him for infiltrating the Dubliner’s camp.

“Oh don’t worry. Me and Paulie are gonna stay at the house and talk about strategy, we’re gonna talk about everything. Don’t you worry. Paulie, thank you for going over there like I asked you to do. And he made it look good when he grabbed you and threw you down. That was a good one. That was a good one.

“Good work! We got him.”

This all seems clearly orchestrated to stir up more drama on the eve of the superfight, but there could be some truth to it.

Mayweather will collide with McGregor in the boxing ring on Saturday, August 26, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
