In the midst of the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. hoopla, a piece of shocking UFC news dropped this afternoon - UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones failed an in-competition drug test after the weigh-ins for his UFC 214 bout with Daniel Cormier and has been provisionally suspended (again) by USADA.

Jones’ manager Malki Kawa released a statement to MMA Fighting stating that Jones was “crushed” by the news and that they will test the B-samples:

“We are all at a complete loss for words right now. Jon, his trainers, his nutritionists and his entire camp have worked tirelessly and meticulously the past 12 months to avoid this exact situation. We are having the samples tested again to determine the validity or source of contamination. Jon is crushed by this news and we are doing whatever we can as a team, to support him.”

Jones, who won the July bout and claimed the title again with a third-round TKO victory, has reportedly tested positive for anabolic steroid turinabol, but the exact substance has not been concretely confirmed. UFC president Dana White stated that he hasn’t been stripped of the title yet, but both White and UFC drug czar Jeff Novitzky will speak to the media at the conclusion of tonight’s Contender Series show in Las Vegas.
