On the final day of 2012, Conor McGregor had his final fight before getting the UFC call-up. Having already won the Cage Warriors featherweight title against Dave Hill, McGregor moved up to lightweight to take on Ivan Buchinger, who’s a very talented fighter in his own right and is currently fighting on M-1 Challenge cards.
While the Jose Aldo KO was the more shocking and incredible finish given the high stakes and Aldo’s reputation, the Buchinger knockout is easily my favorite one of McGregor’s. The first round was firmly in McGregor’s favor, and the way he set up the counter left hand to put Buchinger out cold was a thing of beauty. You can watch the video at the top of the page, and you can also hear the great commentary from John Gooden, who’s also now in the UFC.
McGregor makes his pro boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday, August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
