While a lot of the betting action has been on Conor McGregor so far, the Maloof brothers went in the other direction.

The betting on the big boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. has seen an overwhelming amount of money being placed on the underdog so far. According to an ABC News article, “roughly 95 percent of the tickets and 85 percent of the money has been bet on McGregor in recent weeks”.

The Maloof brothers aren’t seeing things that way.

Gavin and Joe Maloof, the former owners of the Sacramento Kings and entrepreneurs decided to bet a whopping $880,000 dollars on Mayweather after Gavin attended a recent Floyd workout.

“So I called my brother, Joe, and said, 'We should put a wager on Floyd, because I don't think he's going to lose,'" Gavin said. "Not to take anything away from Conor. He's good. But I just like Floyd a lot."

It doesn’t hurt that Maloof lives just down the street from Mayweather and Gavin has been there for Mayweather’s last dozen fights.

They have pledged to donate the winnings from the bet, which would be $160,000 due to getting Floyd at -550, to charity.

"It should be a great event for everybody," Gavin Maloof said. "We'll be able to do a lot of good things."
