UFC 213 Video: Watch Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum go back and forth in co-main event

Watch footage from the UFC 213 co-main event bout between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum.

MMA: UFC 213-Werdum vs Overeem Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum completed for the third time at UFC 213, but it didn’t really put a definite end to their trilogy. After a pretty uneventful opening round, Overeem edged the 2nd, and Werdum took the third with a wide margin as he hurt Alistair pretty bad.

Unfortunately for Werdum, he didn’t finish — or try hard enough to go for it — and he ended up losing a very close majority decision. It still ended up as a pretty entertaining back and forth contest, and you can watch highlights of the bout below.

Here’s a snippet from our play-by-play of the bout:

Round 2 - Werdum runs out with a flying side kick that time. Once again, lol. Body kick from Overeem and Werdum pulled guard. After laying on him for 30 seconds, Overeem backed out and stood up. A lot of feinting again. A right and a body kick from Werdum. Big left uppercut and a knee to the body from Overeem and Werdum pulled guard again. Overeem gets back up after about 15 seconds that time. Winging left and a kick to the body from Overeem. Front body kick from Werdum. Werdum with a right, and then a left on a retreating Overeem. Hard jab from Werdum. Long winging left hook lands for Overeem. They jockey at the end of the round. 10-9 Overeem.

Round 3 - Werdum with another flying kick thing to start. Overeem whiffs on a big punch. Body kick for Werdum. They both miss in close. Overeem with a slapping left. Knee to the body from Werdum. Another. Body kick from Werdum. A knee to the head hurts Overeem! Werdum dropped for a guillotine but Overem slipped out. Werdum back to looking to potshot on the feet. He gets a big takedown. Body punches. Two minutes to go. Werdum with an elbow. Overeem trying to grab the fence. Baby hammerfists to the face. Overeem looking to lock him down. They stall out. Few more short punches. 10-9 and 29-28 Werdum.
