Whether you love him or hate him, Conor McGregor is one of the best promoters in the fight game.
During the ups and downs of the MayMac media world tour, spanning across four cities - Los Angeles, Toronto, Brooklyn, and London - ‘The Notorious’ delivered some of the best soundbites in combat sports history and has cemented his status as one of the best talkers and showmen in the sporting world.
At the Toronto and London pressers, the charismatic Irishman got the audience to shout ‘f-ck the Mayweathers’ on his command. People of all ages joined in with the theatrics, and even ‘Money’ couldn’t help but crack a smile.
McGregor also took aim at Showtime Sports executive Stephen Espinoza, calling him a ‘f-cking weasel’ on live television.
Despite this, Espinoza would like to work with the UFC lightweight champion again and compared his improv skills to none other than WWE legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
“He is a fascinating individual,” Espinoza said at the London media scrum. “He’s very talented as a fighter, but probably up there as one of the top 2-3 most quotable, most charismatic athletes. You really put him on the same caliber as The Rock. It’s hard to say Ali because he’s almost a mythical figure. But, his ability to command a stage, to improvise, to be funny, to be charming and some points offensive...he is a true performer. It’s a skill that cannot be learned.”
The media tour came to a close yesterday at the Wembley Arena in London, England, and both men will be adding final preparations to their training camps in the next four weeks, ahead of their highly anticipated boxing showdown next month.
The blockbuster fight takes place on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
