On Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reported that WME-IMG was involved in the negotiations with Mayweather’s manager, Al Haymon. The unnamed official also said that “White is not involved in the talks.”
Needless to say, it did not take long for White to respond and immediately discredit the story.
“We live in a world right now where you can’t believe anything that you read,” White said to TMZ. “Who else would be running the Mayweather-McGregor deal than me?”
When WME was brought up by the interviewer, Dana responded by rhetorically asking, “What does WME know about making big fights?”
“I’ve had a couple of bad days back-to-back with bad, ‘legitimate news stories’ with the Las Vegas Review-Journal and now the LA Times. Trust me, I’m running the Mayweather-McGregor deal.”
White has frequently asserted on television and radio that he’s been the one negotiating with both the UFC lightweight champion McGregor and the undefeated boxing great Mayweather. With McGregor having agreed to terms with the UFC, White has said he’s working on the Mayweather side, and from there we’ll know if we have a fight or not.
Trust him on that. Or don’t. It’s your choice.
