The main event for Bellator NYC witnessed the long awaited grudge match between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva. Silva was able to do some damage on the feet, but it was Sonnen who was able to routinely score the takedown and work from top position. Sonnen picked up the unanimous decision victory, and is now 1-1 in the Bellator promotion.

Round 1 - Chael with a front kick. He’s in on a takedown immediately and gets it. Elbows and a right from Chael against the cage. He’s landing hard. Silva can’t lock him down. More big rights. Body shots. Chael with the can opener. Wandy has no room to breathe. Silva finally kicks off and gets up with 2:15 to go but Chael immediately crowds him against the cage again. Knees from Chael. Silva with a flurry. Nice right from Sonnen but the counter from Silva dropped him! Silva on top now and Chael has a hold of his arms. Chael got up and looked for a takedown but Wandy secured a guillotine. Chael working from the top with a minute to go. He’s in half. He can’t free his left leg to move to mount. 10-9 Chael despite getting dropped.
