Ireland’s Michael Conlan may be just 1-0 as a pro boxer, but he’s already a heavily discussed prospect. That’s partly due to his strong amateur credentials including a Bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics. But for MMA fans, it’s more due to his association with Conor McGregor - The Notorious walked to the ring with Conlan for the 25 year old fighter’s pro debut at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in March.
Conlan has now been announced for a big fight on July 2 when he will compete on the undercard of the next Manny Pacquiao event. Pacquiao is set to face Jeff Horn in Australia, with Conlan taking on an opponent yet to be named. No word yet on if Conlan’s fight will be part of the broadcast.
Conlan won his pro debut, scoring a 3rd round knockout of Tim Ibarra in March. He’s quickly established himself as an representative of the Irish boxing spirit, drawing fan and media attention to his fights from day one. Top Rank is looking to capitalize on that momentum with the high-profile position fighting alongside Pacquiao.
Before the Pacquiao event, he also has a fight announced for May 26 in Chicago, IL on a card headlined by Mike Alvarado. Again, no opponent yet named for Conlan for that date.
