BE’s Baddest Greatest Lightweight: #2 Shinya Aoki vs. #7 Gray Maynard

Sometimes results are surprising, and sometimes they are inevitable. As expected, our last BE’s Baddest fell into the second category, as #1 seed Frankie Edgar had little troubles dispatching #8 seed Clay Guida, 39-5. Edgar will now face the winner of Edson Barboza vs. Sean Sherk in the Sweet 16.

Today, it’s a 2 vs. 7 match. Often that means an Edgar vs. Guida blow-out, but given how things have gone so far this tournament, I expect this is a pairing that will draw some interesting debate. Here, former Dream, One, and, yes, WAMMA champion #2 seed Shinya Aoki brings his fancy pants in to the ring against #7 Gray Maynard.
