Video: Tyron Woodley takes Demian Maia’s back, sinks in choke, leaves challenger laughing

While some fighters were having more serious altercations at the UFC’s fighter retreat this past weekend, Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia got a chance for a lighthearted trial run of their potential upcoming bout.

Are we moving closer to making Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia official? Or, did we just see it go down at the UFC’s fighter retreat this last weekend?

The UFC gathered together their sizable roster of fighters for a weekend of UFC focused events, and with so many competitors under one roof, we were bound to see a few people go after each other. And while Cris Cyborg and Angela Magana may have had some legit beef to settle, for two people who might actually end up in the cage together, Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia were just there to have fun.

Tyron "The Chosen One" Woodley is getting that #UFC Welterweight Championship defense started early.

“Damnit, I’m on his back,” Woodley said, as he jumped on Maia in a video posted to the PROcast Facebook page. “I’m finna get his neck.

“Backpack!”

Maia recently reiterated his claim as the top title challenger for Woodley’s welterweight belt with a win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 211. And as a result, the promotion has promised Maia that he’s next in line. Of course, those kinds of promises aren’t ones the UFC has been especially good at keeping over the years, as Yoel Romero and any other number of fighters can attest to. But, if the fight does go down it seems safe to say that the buildup won’t include much trash talk.
