Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier might have ended on good terms after their controversial lightweight bout at UFC 211, but things have taken a turn for the worse on social media.
Alvarez, the former Bellator and UFC 155-pound champion, landed a pair of illegal knees to Poirier's head in the second round after a frenetic exchange earlier in the contest.
Veteran referee Herb Dean controversially ruled the bout a no contest, declaring that 'The Underground King' did not intentionally look to commit a foul. Many fans, however, feel Alvarez should have been disqualified and the result has caused a stir online.
Both men got into it on Twitter yesterday, with Alvarez claiming that 'The Diamond' was looking for a way out of the fight.

Poirier, a top former featherweight contender, will be appealing the no contest to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TLDR), in the hopes of having the result overturned to a disqualification. A DQ loss for Alvarez would mean a win on Poirier's resume.
Alvarez and Poirier have unfinished business, and it's likely that the UFC will book the rematch in the coming weeks.
