Pearl Gonzalez vs. Cynthia Calvillo is back on for UFC 210 following breast implant controversy

Just when it appeared as if Pearl Gonzalez would be denied her UFC debut against Cynthia Calvillo, the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) has cleared her for competition on Saturday night.

UFC president Dana White confirmed just prior to the ceremonial weigh-ins that Gonzalez vs. Calvillo is back on course for UFC 210 in Buffalo.

Gonzalez was originally pulled from the card for having breast implants, which the NYSAC prohibited for boxers (but never updated the wording for MMA fighters). This occurred after the completion of the official weigh-ins, which saw Gonzalez make weight.

In addition to Dana’s confirmation, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto tweeted out a statement released by the NYSAC on Gonzalez.

There you have it. UFC 210 still features a light heavyweight champion who lost and then didn’t lose the belt on the scales, and a debuting fighter who is now allowed to compete with breast implants after the originally commission told her she couldn’t.
