Tommy Toehold’s UFC 209 predictions

Bloody Elbow content partner Tommy Toehold is back with his latest breakdown video for UFC 209.

We’re just hours away from UFC 209, and while some of the star power has been reduced with the Ferguson-Nurmagomedov fight having been canceled, there’s still plenty of great match-ups on the card to get excited about. Rashad Evans’ middleweight debut against Aussie standout “Judo” Dan Kelly is a “can’t miss” feature, and “Groovy” Lando Vannata will be taking on highly touted Swedish prospect David Teymur in a bout that will surely provide fireworks for action-hungry fans.

If that doesn’t quite hit the mark for you, perhaps the clash of heavyweight titans Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem will do the trick. All these awesome contests provide an excellent night of action that concludes with the welterweight title rematch between the “Chosen One” Tyron Woodley and the “Wonderboy” Stephen Thompson in the main event.

As is the case with all the UFC’s bigger cards, Bloody Elbow content partner Thomas J. Toehold, Esquire has a video breakdown complete with stats and predictions to help you pick the winners. Here’s a quick transcript of one of his predictions:

“Lando Vannata vs David Teymur: Both up and comers. Both have 2 fights in the UFC. Vannata made waves when he fought Tony Ferguson, and he is the big favorite here, but both of these guys only have two fights in the UFC, and there are things about Vannata's game that worry me, the amount of strikes he absorbs specifically: 8.52 significant strikes per minute. That is a lot of damage. On the other hand, Teymur (1.63) has those defense stats, and I think this fight will be a lot closer than people believe. I'm going with the upset, David Teymur via decision.”

UFC 209 kicks off this evening at 6:30 pm EST with the featured Fight Pass prelims.
