In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Anderson vs. Manuwa in London, England, Icelandic welterweight submission specialist Gunnar Nelson used his striking to set up a slick guillotine win over Alan Jouban. It’s the sixth submission win for Nelson in his UFC career, and the twelfth of his overall career.

Jouban fired off a hard leg kick in the opening seconds. Nelson closed the distance and worked for a takedown but couldn’t complete it. Nelson rushed in behind his strikes and changed levels for a takedown. Jouban did well to scramble back to his feet for a moment, but Nelson got him to the mat and into side control. The BJJ wizard advanced to mount. Nelson landed a hard elbow from this position, and kept himself in mount as the round ended. Nevertheless it was a dominant finish to the round for Gunnar.

Both men were active with their striking in the first 30 seconds of round 2. A straight right rocked Jouban badly and turned his legs to jelly. Nelson hit him with a head kick, then dropped down for a guillotine, and Jouban immediately tapped out. Another great display by one of the best 170 lbs fighters in the world.

Official result: Gunnar Nelson def. Alan Jouban by submission (guillotine choke) at :46 of round 2
