There’s bad luck and then there’s Ian McCall’s “curse.” For the ninth time (fifth in a row over the last five months), the UFC flyweight fan favorite has had a fight canceled on very short notice. At this point, one starts to wonder if angry fight gods have a bone to pick with the mustachioed brawler. was first to report on the cancellation,

“Having already made weight for his UFC 208 bout against late-notice opponent Jarred Brooks, McCall was pulled from the card by the UFC after being deemed physically unable to compete.”

Of the nine bout cancellations since McCall joined the roster in 2012, six of those were due to his own illness or injury and the other three were because his opponents had to pull out of the fights for various reasons. Even before joining the UFC, the California native had two other bout cancellations while under the Tachi Palace banner.

The tally, as it stands right now, is as follows:

  1. UFC on FOX 4 - John Moraga
  2. UFC on FOX 9 - Scott Jorgensen
  3. Fight Night 37 - Brad Pickett
  4. Fight Night 56 - John Lineker
  5. Fight Night 73 - Dustin Ortiz
  6. UFC 201 - Justin Scoggins
  7. UFC 203 - Ray Borg
  8. Fight Night 99 - Neil Seery
  9. UFC 208 - Jarred Brooks (Brooks served as a late replacement for an injured Seery)

Tachi Palace Fights

  1. Josh Rave
  2. Will Campuzano

With McCall’s propensity for bout cancellations, the UFC may not be quite so keen to continue booking him in the future. Hopefully, his run of bad luck comes to an end soon.

*Update per MMAFighting:

“McCall had gastrointestinal issues and had to be transported to the hospital, per the UFC. He was pulled from the card on the recommendations of a doctor.”
