Top Rank Boxing on ESPN returns with a monumental main event between two of the top pound-for-pound pugilists in the world. WBO junior lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) defends his title against WBA junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0-1 NC, 11 KOs) in a matchup of two two-time Olympic gold medalists, a first in the history of boxing. Cuba’s Rigondeaux is moving up two weight classes to take on the Ukrainian sensation Lomachenko, whom unlike Rigondeaux, has steadily built a fanbase with his spellbinding performances in the ring.
New York City’s Madison Square Garden Theater is sold out for this one. Rigondeaux has struggled to get a big fight, and in fact found it rough to have his fights featured on major US networks, and this is his opportunity. Lomachenko has his sights set on not only getting a high-profile win against Rigondeaux, but to compete in bigger venues and perhaps move up to 135-pounds in 2018. Both men are superb tacticians, possess excellent boxing skills, but their styles most certainly aren’t the same. It should make for fascinating viewing, even if the fight is not likely to be an all-out brawl.
Bloody Elbow is here to provide you full coverage of Lomachenko vs. Rigondeaux. Here are the basic details on who's fighting on Saturday night, how you can watch the card, where you can catch a live stream, and more.
