UFC 219: Cyborg vs. Holm PPV card live results, discussion, play by play

Live, blow-by-blow updates for tonight’s UFC 219 PPV main card, including the featherweight title fight between the champion, Cris Cyborg, and the challenger, Holly Holm.

Join us tonight on Bloody Elbow for live results, discussion, round scoring and play-by-play for UFC 219: Cyborg vs. Holm, live from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tonight’s event will be capped off with a women’s featherweight title fight between iconic champion Cris Cyborg, and notorious giant slayer Holly Holm. Top-5 lightweights will do battle in the co-main event as the undefeated #2 Khabib Nurmagomedov throws down with the #4 Edson Barboza to see who will be next in line to challenge for a title... hopefully.

This post will cover the main PPV card, which kicks off at 10pm ET/7pm PT and will feature five bouts altogether. The full lineup and schedule follows, with the preliminary card being covered in a separate post.

PPV Main Card:

Cris Cyborg vs. Holly Holm: (W) Featherweight Title

Rd.1-

Cyborg goes high with the kick but Holm catches it and throws her to the ground. Holm lands a head kick as Cyborg stands up. Holm explodes in with a hard cross but Cyborg wears it well. Holm blocks a head kick from Cyborg and returns fire with another southpaw cross. Cyborg connects with a counter right hand, and then again. Holm commits to a cross but eats another counter right hand. Holm briefly presses Cyborg up against he cage before returning to open space. Holm scores with a jab followed by a head kick as time expires.

Rd.2-

Cyborg begins the second stanza with a bloody nose, but looks to press the action. Holm misses with her cross and Cyborg counters with the right hand. Cyborg uncorks a heavy body kick to the midsection of Holm. Holm lands another laser left cross and then presses Cyborg up against the cage. Holm repeats the process, frustrating Cyborg. A series of head kicks are thrown by Cyborg, and then to the body. Holm presses her opponent up against the fence once more as the round expires.

Rd.3-

Holm misses with the left high kick and Cyborg grabs the double underhooks. Holm finds separation but eats a big right hand from Cyborg. Holm fires back with a counter hook of her own. Holm throws the right hook again but finishes with a partially blocked head kick. A stiff cross lands for holm as Cyborg comes forward. Cyborg goes upstairs with the head kick. Cyborg misses with a hook to head kick combo. Cyborg connects with a heavy right hand and blitzes with a flurry as the round ends.

Rd.4-

Cyborg kicks off the fourth round with a heavy right hand. A jumping body kick scores for Cyborg. Holm eats a body kick as she looks to circle out. Holm almost circles right into a Cyborg head kick. Holm launches combos finishing with kicks but nothing landing clean. Cyborg teeps the midsection of her opponent and then kicks upstairs. Holm closes the distance and holds her foe up against the fence. Cyborg runs after Holm when she disengages from the clinch. A stinging jab knocks Holm off balance.

Rd.5-

Holm opens the final round with a kick to the midsection. A set of inside leg kicks hit home for Cyborg. Holm returns to wall and stalling her opponent but Cyborg finds open space. Cyborg lands a jab and follows up with a jab cross. Cyborg lands a bombing right hand as Holm circles out. Holm is punching a lot of air and eats a heavy right hand for her trouble. Holm blitzes in but Cyborg is left unfazed. A set of crosses land for Holm that get the attention of Cyborg. Holm wall and stalls but eats a few knees to the body.

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Edson Barboza: Lightweight

Rd.1-

Barboza opens up with a vicious inside leg kick. Barboza lands a jab and misses with a wild overhand right. Nurm presses forward eating leg kicks before finally grabbing his foe. Barboza does a sound job of returning to open space, launching body kicks. Nurm rushes in with a flying knee and instantly goes for the takedown. Nurm starts landing big punches from the top and there is still a lot of time left in the round. Barboza locks up half guard but Nurm stands up and drops the hammer. Nurm goes Donkey Kong on Barboza’s face, relentlessly pounding away. Nurm reaches full mount but Barboza reclaims half guard, eating elbows in the process.

Rd.2-

Nurm comes out up with a leg kick of his own. Nurm rushes in again with a flying knee. Barboza throws a flurry but Nurm scores a head kick because of it. Nurm presses his foe up against the fence, teeing off with left hands. Barboza throws his classic spinning heel kick but slips in the process. Nurm pursues his opponent, dragging Barboza to the mat to deal out more punishment. A battered Barboza continues to absorb ground strike after ground strike until the bell sounded.

10-8 Nurmagomedov

Rd.3-

Nurm comes out pumping his jab followed by a wild overhand right. Nurm scores a quick takedown but Barboza manages to return to his feet. A couple of thigh punches score for Nurm, but Barboza still remains vertical. Barboza finds open space and pumps the jab. Barboza launches a spinning back kick that is partially blocked. Nurm moves in for yet another takedown and continues to add to his strike count. Nurm hangs on Barboza makes it to his feet and lands a knee to the face of Nurm, but the undefeated fighter wears it well. Nurm throws one last flurry and that’s the fight.

Daniel Hooker vs. Marc Diakiese: Lightweight

Rd.1-

Diakiese takes the center of the Octagon with Hooker keeping his distance on the outside. Diakiese switches to southpaw to give his opponent a different look, and then switches back to orthodox. A series of thigh stomps land for Diakiese and Hooker responds with a stiff jab. Hooker runs in with a leg kick and blocks a body kick from Diakiese. Diakiese catches a kick and fires a cross down the middle. The crowd starts to boo, not appreciating the pace. Hooker shoots in and secures a late takedown before the round expires.

10-9 Hooker?

Rd.2-

Diakiese leaps in with an overhand left from the southpaw position, and again. Hooker leaps in with a body kick that is partially blocked. Diakiese connects with the left hand. Hooker obtains double underhooks and presses Diakiese up against the fence. Diakiese throws a series of calf kicks but Hooker changes levels and earns a takedown. Hooker transitions to the back, locking up the body triangle. Diakiese attempts to heel strike Hooker’s foot. Diakiese spins around into the guard of Hooker to finish the round on top.

10-9 Diakiese

Rd.3-

Diakiese shot in for a takedown but Hooker is waiting for him with a Guillotine Choke. Hooker jumps guard, squeezes, and Diakiese taps out.

Cynthia Calvillo vs. Carla Esparza: Strawweight

Rd.1-

The strawweights exchange right hands but each athlete dipped her head out of harms way. Calvillo ducks under a punch to earn a takedown into half guard. Esparza gains full guard and locks up an Armbar, but Calvillo escapes into side control. Calvillo drops a big knee to the body, maintaining top control. Calvillo drops a series of hammerfists and transitions to the back, but Esparza reverses the position to finish the round in the dominant position.

Rd.2-

Esparza opens up with a leg kick behind the jab. Esparza eats a right hand rushing in. A stiff right hand cracks for Esparza as Calvillo looks to counter. The athletes flurry in the pocket with Esparza getting the better of the exchange. Calvillo counters with another right hand as her opponent rushes in. Esparza shoots in but eats a knee to the body in the process. Another punching combo lands for Esparza. The strawweights exchange right hands before Esparza picking up a brief takedown. Esparza snagged a short lived single leg in the closing moments of the round.

10-9 Esparza

Rd.3-

Calvillo takes the center and pumps her jab. Esparza comes forward with her right hand, but also eats a right hand from Calvillo. Esparza attacks with the leg kick and comes over the top with punches. A poking jab lands for Calvillo. A superman punch scores for Esparza followed by another leg kick. Another punching combo lands for Esparza with Calvillo only landing one strike in the exchange. Calvillo shoots in but Esparza attacks the neck, forcing the separation. Another brief takedown is secured by Esparza, but Calvillo will not be held down. Esparza goes bonkers in the final seconds, throwing punches in bunches and finishing with a leg kick as the round closes.

Carlos Condit vs. Neil Magny: Welterweight

Rd.1-

The welterweights are right to work with Magny pushing Condit over. Condit wraps up a leg before Magny falls into the full guard. Condit scrambles back to his feet, but Magny keeps the body lock. They separate and Condit lands a leg kick but eats a series of straights for his trouble. Condit whiffs with jab cross head kick combo. An uppercut lands for Condit followed by an elbow on the inside. A stiff cross lands for Condit as Magny throws a one two.

Rd.2-

Condit opens up with a jab hook body kick combo. A leg kick scores for Condit as Magny presses forward. Magny presses Condit up against the cage, attacking the body and legs with knees. Magny scores a huge body lock takedown, lifting his opponent up off of the ground. Condit ties up Magny in his full guard and finds a way to stand back to his feet. Condit pushes forward and lands an elbow as Magny’s back is to the cage. A body jab sets up another elbow as Magny’s back is to the cage. Magny grabs ahold of a body lock and gets another takedown. Condit gets up but Magny scores another takedown. Condit briefly goes for an Armbar but Magny easily escapes.

Rd.3-

Magny lands a flurry of straight punches as Condit attacked with a leg kick. Condit backs his foe to the cage and launches a knee to the body. Magny peppers with a double jab. Magny catches a kick and throws a cross right down the pipeline, using the moment to enter the clinch. Magny disengages and lands a 3 punch combination. Condit catches Magny against the cage and lands a combo of his own, finishing with the elbow. Magny again lands with a one two combo as Condit attacks the leg. Condit cracks with a heavy leg kick but Magny responds with a poking cross. Magny ern yet another body lock takedown but Condit makes it back to his feet before the round expires.
