The UFC’s strong end-of-the-year lineup of fight cards just took a solid shot in the teeth. With just under a month until UFC 218, it looks like the main event has been scrapped due to injury.
Combate reports that Frankie Edgar suffered a facial injury in training. The injury is apparently severe enough that it will require surgery and thus keep him out of his planned bout with Max Holloway. That leaves the UFC in need of a main event for the December 2nd PPV, set to go down in Detroit, MI.
Max Holloway put out an offer on social media, asking for challengers to step up to the plate.
Combate does report that the UFC will search for a replacement for Edgar in the title fight. At the moment, Renato Moicano, Yair Rodriguez, Darren Elkins, and Jeremy Stephens are the only unbooked fighters in the top 10 (Chan Sung Jung blew out his ACL & MCL in June). Of those fighters, only Elkins and Stephens are coming off wins, and Stephens already has a lopsided loss to Holloway on his record.
