Darren Till just came onto the UFC’s radar in a huge way. The UFC had originally set a booking for a UFC on Fox card in Orlando for February, but according to Dana White, that card will no longer take place there. Instead, the promotion will move the event to England to book Till against a very strong opponent - Stephen Thompson.
Lance Pugmire of the LA Times has the info:
Dana White says he’s moving his UFC card from Orlando, moving it to England so popular Darren Till can fight @WonderboyMMA— Lance Pugmire (@latimespugmire) November 8, 2017
The date is Feb. 24 for Till-Wonderboy.— Lance Pugmire (@latimespugmire) November 8, 2017
Till (16-0-1, 4-0-1 UFC) burst into the 170-pound rankings with a first-round TKO victory over longtime contender Donald Cerrone in Poland last month. Thompson (14-2-1, 9-2-1 UFC) is coming off an entertaining decision win over Jorge Masvidal. Previous to that he was given two shots at Tyron Woodley’s welterweight title, but came away with a draw and a majority decision loss.
It is unclear at this point where the England card will take place, but you’d have to expect that the UFC is wanting to book it in Till’s hometown of Liverpool. That’s a doozy of a fight for a Fox show.
