UFC 217 post-fight poll: Whittaker? McGregor? Woodley? Anderson Silva? Who does GSP fight next?

Georges St-Pierre is now the new UFC middleweight champion, but what’s next for him?

MMA: UFC 217-Bisping vs St-Pierre Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Georges St-Pierre returned from a four-year hiatus to submit Michael Bisping and become the new UFC middleweight champion. Fans at Madison Square Garden erupted in unbridled joy after watching the former welterweight king cap off an unforgettable night of fights at UFC 217 with a dramatic win.

There’s a lot to digest after a card that epic, but we must look ahead to what’s next for the Canadian legend. Robert Whittaker is the interim middleweight champion and wants to headline UFC 221, which takes place in Perth, Australia in February 2018. Logically, he should be next in line for GSP, but we know that’s not always how it works.

Also a possibility is welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who has drawn heavy criticism from fans for his lackluster defenses against Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia. This would be the biggest fight of Woodley’s career in terms of pay-per-view buys, and also an opportunity for GSP to regain the welterweight crown he abdicated.

Staying in the welterweight division, there’s Conor McGregor, and there’s no way around putting his name in the discussion. While there would be no title on the line, it’d be a battle between the biggest star MMA has ever had and one of the longtime top PPV draws in the sport. It’s not a stretch to say this fight could even break two million buys in North America, something reserved only for a handful of boxing matches.

Returning to the middleweight division, there’s Anderson Silva. Yes, Anderson Silva. The superfight that never was. He has a fight with Kelvin Gastelum in China on November 25th. A win for Silva gives him two straight and that’d be more than enough to justify making GSP-Silva happen. Sure, this isn’t going to make Whittaker happy, but you should know by now that this sport is not a meritocracy.

Or maybe it’s none of these fighters! Or perhaps he’ll retire! That’s why there’s a poll for you to respond with your answer. Also feel free to reply with your explanations in the comments section or on Twitter (@BloodyElbow).
