Dana White has very high hopes for this upcoming UFC 217 pay-per-view. According to him, Georges St-Pierre’s return is trending well and the UFC is likely going to break Mayweather vs McGregor records — the ones that were set in Canada at least.

“May-Mac is number one in Canada, another one of our UFC events is two and three. This one is trending to beat all three of them,” White said during a recent media scrum. “I’m very confident that this fight will break the record in Canada, that we just broke with May-Mac, and be number one.

“We’re going to do a million buys between the United States and Canada.”

White also gave a similar statement during the UFC fighters meeting.

“We’re on track to beat McGregor vs Mayweather — thank you, Georges,” he said. “This place here (MSG), we’re going to be number three all-time gate. We’re number one and number three.”

Ranked number 1 on Madison Square Garden’s all-time gate records was UFC 205, which was $17.7 million and headlined by Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez. Boxing’s Holyfield vs Lewis bout from 1999 is 2nd at $13.5 million.

Depending on who you ask, Mayweather vs McGregor either approached the pay-per-view records set by Mayweather vs Pacquiao or blew past them, with White’s figures being at 6.7 million buys.

If UFC 217 indeed ended up with $1 million pay-per-view buys, it obviously wouldn’t come close to MayMac’s global numbers, but it would be by far the best selling event for the UFC in 2017.
