UFC 217 witnessed Paulo Henrique Costa take out the UFC’s former welterweight champion, Johny Hendricks, in the second round of their middleweight affair. “Borrachinha” attacked the body early on in the first, and then went H.A.M. in the second frame, cracking Hendricks on the feet until the referee had seen enough. What’s next for the undefeated Costa?
Paulo Costa def. Johny Hendricks by TKO at 1:23 of round 2: Middleweight
Borrachinha drew first blood with a series of well placed body kicks, as Hendricks winced from the impact of each. Borrachinha thwarted the initial takedown attempt of Hendricks, and made him pay with mean knees to the body. Hendricks would not back down as he landed a couple left hands and scored with a few leg kicks. Borrachinha continued to work the body of the much smaller opponent, but Hendricks was there to respond with his left hand.
Borrachinha came out aggressive in the second stanza, blitzing Hendricks with all sorts of strikes, overwhelming the former welterweight champion, before the referee stepped in.
